ABOUT ME

ARTIST STATEMENT
I am a Ukrainian visual artist based in Germany, working with watercolor to explore light and shadow in urban environments.
My practice is rooted in movement and direct observation. Through traveling and drawing on site, I capture the atmosphere of places where architecture, light, and time intersect.
My works function as visual records of lived experience — reflecting how space is perceived, remembered, and emotionally transformed.
BIOGRAPHY
Anna Kataian is a Ukrainian artist currently based in Germany. She studied Art Restoration at the State Academy of Design and Arts
in Kharkiv, Ukraine.
Her professional background includes work as a freelance restorer and artist with a focus on oil painting and teaching practice.
Since 2016, she has been dedicated primarily to watercolor painting, developing a practice centered on urban environments, light, and perception of place.

PRACTICE
Kataian’s practice is grounded in direct observation and travel. Each body of work emerges from specific urban environments, where architectural structures and light conditions define spatial and emotional experience.
Watercolor becomes a tool for capturing fleeting visual impressions, translating them into a language of memory and perception.
